FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Philadelphia, PA, September 30, 2017 – Rhoads Industries, Inc. (Rhoads), a strategic partner and total solution provider of industrial fabrication, installation and maintenance services and facilities, announced it was awarded a three-year IDIQ contract from the Army Corps of Engineers that will amount to $49 million in Navy work. The contract extends the Company’s ten-year relationship with the Navy and will entail supplying skilled labor and custom fabrication to support their activities at the Navy Yard.
Since establishing a presence at the Navy Yard in 2002, Rhoads has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with the Navy, providing support to more than 100 land-based, continually operating test sites.
“We are very pleased to be able to continue working with the Navy here in Philadelphia as we have for the past ten years,” said Dan Rhoads, CEO and Owner of Rhoads. “Our close relationship with the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation has opened up many new doors for Rhoads by supporting our expansion and diversification efforts based at the Navy Yard. We are excited to offer our unique facilities and capabilities to support the Navy’s efforts.”
For more than 30 years, Rhoads Industries and the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) have maintained a partnership that has enabled Rhoads to expand its facility size, equipment needs and employee base in addition to creating jobs across the region. Rhoads’ strategic headquarters in Building 57 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard provides a set of exceptional benefits to various partners who require the assembly of larger items.
“The mutual benefits received by Rhoads and PIDC through our strong partnership have been numerous and we’re proud to say have also positively impacted the Philadelphia community,” said John Grady, CEO of the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation. “We are happy to support Rhoads in their continued expansion in Philadelphia and we look forward to continuing to work as a team in the years ahead.”
Ongoing restoration of Building 57 is made possible by the long-term financial support of PIDC, who is currently working with Rhoads to utilize the New Market Tax Credit Program (NMTC) to help with the funding of further improvements. The building currently boasts difficult-to-find heavy manufacturing capabilities with a 200-ton crane capacity, a 60’ by 50” roll-up door and heavy load floors, all near deep water. Its location makes it ideal for those supporting the Navy’s efforts at the Navy Yard.
In addition to allowing Rhoads to expand its own home base, Building 57 also provides space to longtime partner, Northrop Grumman. As with Northrop, upcoming work with Electric Boat will support the Navy’s latest submarine program, which will continue to run for over 20 years.
To meet this demand, Rhoads is launching a new apprenticeship program for its Boilermaker workforce. Beginning in 2018, the Company plans to add 25 to 30 new hires per year over the next seven years. This is in addition to the 40 new hires made in 2017 to deepen its skilled labor, Safety and Quality areas.
